Lessons and steps

Why a step is locked, what opens it, and how tests work.

A lesson is a list of steps. There are three kinds:

  • Explore: look at the map with the names showing. It's done after you've had it open for a little while.
  • Practice: a go that isn't marked.
  • Quiz: a test with a pass mark. Press Test to take it, or Practice to try first.

A step marked Optional never counts against you.

Why is a step locked?

A locked step says Not open yet and tells you why. For example:

  • "Finish the lesson before this one."
  • "Pass … to open this."
  • "Opens …" with a day and time.
  • "Your teacher will open this."

Do what it says, and the step opens. Once a step is open, it stays open.

Tests

Your teacher sets the rules for each test:

  • Pass mark: the score you need.
  • Attempts: you might only get a few. The step shows how many you've used.
  • A wait between attempts: it tells you when you can try again.
  • Which attempt counts: your best, your latest or your first.

Practice goes are never limited.

Timed tests

Some tests have a time limit. You'll see Time remaining, and a warning when there's one minute left. If the time runs out, your answers are saved. You're marked on the questions you reached.

Seeing the answers

Practice always shows which answers were right. For tests, your teacher decides. Often you see them once you've passed.
